Abstract

This chapter argues that interdisciplinary work has always provided useful insights that go beyond those that emerge from a single discipline. However the exponential increase in new disciplinary knowledge has increased the importance of the insights that come from careful interdisciplinary work. The field of management is used to demonstrate the contribution that interdisciplinary work can make, Decision Support Systems being an early example and the programme on ‘Management in the 1990’s’, published by Oxford University Press providing a current example.
