Abstract
As the new millennium unfolds, the capital markets of Europe — particularly the equity markets — are undergoing tremendous change. An equity culture is on the rise in Europe, driven by shifts in investment focus and climate, international monetary developments such as the Euro, and tectonic shifts in technology. Markets, intermediaries, issuers and investors are all reacting to these changes in different ways and at different speeds. But one thing is clear: With the supply of equity capital invested in Europe growing rapidly, exchanges need to provide innovative ways to satisfy an increasingly demanding and diverse range of market participants.
