This chapter analyses various aspects of the virtualisation of human resource development (HRD) using a global corporation as an example. Crucial change drivers leading to these kinds of measures as well as the experience gained in these processes are reported. Anticipated problem areas and actual experience are not always parallel. In addition, core success factor for implementing virtual HRD can be identified. In the starting phase, clear agreements on the framework, responsibilities and finances of the project, the availability of adequate infrastructure, the time available for employees to use the systems and support from management turned out to be especially important. During the ongoing use of the systems, a realistic estimate about personal support, the conceputalisation of the content, the acceptance of a foreign language as lingua franca for the systems, reporting and controlling, internal public relations and handling intercultural differences seem to be especially crucial.
