Zusammenfassung
Die Geschwindigkeit und das Ausmaß der Veränderung von Märkten hat in den letzten Jahren zugenommen. Vor allem das hohe Entwicklungstempo neuer Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien hat den Grad der Vernetzung der Volkswirtschaften erhöht und dadurch zu einer Potenzierung von Rückkopplungseffekten geführt und die Prognose der Entwicklung von Märkten erschwert. Das Internet hat die Zahl der Wettbewerber in vielen Märkten erhöht, die Vielfalt der angebotenen Produkte- und Dienstleistungen anwachsen und selbst für kleinere Unternehmen weltweit neue Absatzmärkte entstehen lassen. Vor diesem Hintergrund wird deutlich, dass sich der Flexibilitätsbedarf für viele Unternehmen erhöht hat. Dies trifft vor allem auf Unternehmen in jungen Märkten zu, weil hier eine hohe technologische und strategische Unsicherheit vorherrscht1. Die am Neuen Markt notierten Aktiengesellschaften kommen typischerweise aus solchen Märkten. Der Marktwert der Unternehmen an dieser Börse wird in hohem Maße durch deren zukünftiges Wachstumspotential determinierte2. Dauerhaftes Wachstum ist in einem von wachsenden Diskontinuitäten geprägten Marktumfeld3 jedoch nur bei hoher strategischer Flexibilität und einer Anpassung der Unternehmensstrategie an die sich verändernden Marktverhältnisse möglich. Dementsprechend müsste mit wachsender strategischer Flexibilität der Marktwert von Unternehmen in jungen Märkten steigen, weil strategische Flexibilität erfolgreiche Strategieveränderungen ermöglicht.Vor diesem Hintergrund werden die Konstrukte strategische Flexibilität und Strategieveränderungen im folgenden zunächst definiert und operationalisiert um anschließend deren Wirkungen auf den Marktwert von Unternehmen empirisch zu überprüfen.
