Zusammenfassung
Hatte 2002 der „Krieg gegen den Terrorismus“ die innen- und außenpolitische Entwicklung Libanons (L.) maßgeblich bestimmt, so war es 2003 der am 20.3. begonnene Krieg im Irak, einem Land, mit dessen Schicksal L. in vielfältiger Weise verknüpft ist. Saddam Husain hatte im libanesischen (lib.) Bürgerkrieg mehrere Parteien finanziell und militärisch unterstützt, die Schiiten im Irak und im L. unterhalten seit jeher enge Kontakte, und nicht zuletzt rief der Krieg bei vielen Libanesen schmerzhafte Erinnerungen an den eigenen Bürgerkrieg hervor, vor dem einige auch in den Irak geflohen waren.
