Abstract
Institutions do not only exist in political arenas but also in “free markets” which are always controlled by a large number of different regulations, rules and standards1. In the following paper we will take a closer look at the design, performance and effects of a particular type of market internal institutions that is becoming increasingly important on the world market: environmental production standards.
