Abstract
The Archive of the German Women’s Movement was founded in Kassel in 1983 to establish a special library on the first German Women’s Movement. The holdings, which currently number circa 18,000 volumes (books, periodicals, brochures, documents and letters), represent the only collection of this kind and serve as an important basis both for the research of the living and working conditions of women in the 19th and early 20th centuries and for the history of the organized women’s movement in Germany. A photographic archive currently holding circa 3,000 pictures complements the collection of written materials.
