Die gesellschaftliche Verankerung politischer Parteien in nichtwestlichen Demokratien als Forschungsproblem

Zusammenfassung

Die Parteienforschung ist Mitte der 1990er Jahre des letzten Jahrhunderts wiederbelebt worden. Die Gründung der Fachzeitschrift Party Politics 1995 und ihr Fortbestand bis heute ist ein klares Indiz dafür, zahlreiche andere Publikationen ein weiteres.1 Der Anlass für das neue Interesse lag nicht etwa darin, dass die Parteienforschung ihr grundlegendes Dilemma, die „geringe Theoretisierbarkeit“ (Beyme 2000: 9) ihres Gegenstandes, überwunden hätte. Vielmehr lag ein schlichter, aber wesentlicher Grund in Gründung zahlreicher neuer Parteien im Rahmen der so genannten dritten Demokratisierungswelle. Die Zahl der neuen Parteien ging in die Hunderte. Dabei wurde rasch deutlich, dass sich die zumeist jungen Parteien in den jungen Demokratien von den etablierten Parteien in den alten Demokratien Westeuropas und in Nordamerika unterscheiden und damit die Forschung vor neue Herausforderungen stellen. Ein anderer Grund für das wieder erwachte Interesse an politischen Parteien lag darin, dass auch an den etablierten Parteien Veränderungen zu beobachten waren, die ihre gesamte Erscheinung berührten. Klaus von Beyme (2000) hat dies im Titel seines Spätwerkes Parteien im Wandel Von den Volksparteien zu den professionalisierten Wählerparteien eingefangen.
