Zusammenfassung

Einer weit verbreiteten und intuitiv zudem recht plausiblen Annahme nach fuhrt Globalisierung angeblich zur immer stärkeren Ähnlichkeit von Unähnlichem, zur immer stärkeren Gleichheit von Ungleichem und damit zur kulturellen, wirtschaftlichen, sozialen und politischen Homogenisierung weltweit. Tatsächlich weichen Berliner Buletten und schwäbische Fleischküchle vielerorts global gleichen Hamburgern während Apfelsaft, Almdudler und Carcadet von Coca Cola und Sprite verdrängt werden. Der Tarbush (oder Fez, wie er hierzulande oft genannt wird) unterliegt dem Hut, der seinerseits im Konkurrenzkampf mit der Baseball-Mütze auf der Strecke bleibt. Der Sari und das Dirndl werden durch das Kostüm ersetzt, die Galabiyya durch den Anzug, und am Ende tragen alle nur noch Blue Jeans. Englische Pubs öffnen über Mittag, bald sogar nach elf Uhr abends, während griechische Terrassen schon gegen Mitternacht schließen.
