Zusammenfassung

Um ein Verständnis für die Beziehungen zu gewinnen, die zwischen Rasse und Ethnizität einerseits und Gewalt andererseits herrschen, muss man die Faktoren Armut, Segregation und Migration sowie kulturelle und historische Erfahrungen berücksichtigen. Da nur wenige systematische Studien vorliegen, die sich spezifisch mit Segregation und Gewalt befassen, kommt der Natur der Beziehungen zwischen allen diesen Einflüssen eine wichtige Bedeutung für das Verständnis von gewalttätigem Verhalten zu.

Keine europäische Stadt kennt das Maß an konzentrierter Armut und an rassischer und ethnischer Segregation, das für die amerikanischen Metropolen charakteristisch ist.
