Zusammenfassung

Suizidverhalten umfasst ein Spektrum von Verhaltensweisen, das von Suizidphantasien (Suizidgedanken) über den Suizidversuch verschiedenen medizinischen Schweregrads ohne Todesfolge bis zum vollendeten Suizid mit Todesfolge reicht. Die neuere wissenschaftliche Literatur zum Suizidversuch bezweifelt, ob viele derjenigen, die einen Suizidversuch begehen, überhaupt eine Sterbeabsicht haben. Weil es oft schwer ist, eine Selbsttötungsabsicht nachzuweisen, sind die Bezeichnungen „parasuicide“ und „deliberate self-harm“ zu verbreiteten Fachbegriffen für den Suizidversuch geworden.
