Zusammenfassung

Ein wesentlicher Gesichtspunkt bei der Auswahl einer Codierung ist der der Datenkompression. Durch diese soll der Speicherplatz-Bedarf, die Zugriffszeit bzw. die Übertragungszeit verringert werden; (die Kompression und Dekompression nimmt normalerweise weniger Zeit in Anspruch, als durch die Kompression eingespart wird).
