Jedwede Lebensform auf der Erde ist auf die Nutzung von Energie angewiesen. So nutzen Pflanzen zur Photosynthese Sonnenenergie. Nach der Umwandlung wird diese als chemisch gebundene Energie in den Pflanzen gespeichert. Die Energiezufuhr für tierische Lebewesen erfolgt hauptsächlich aus der Pflanzenwelt.
