Zusammenfassung
In diesem Kapitel betrachten wir die Aufgabe, eine gegebene stetige Funktion f : [a, b] → ℝ durch eine einfache, d. h. im Computer darstellbare und für gegebenes Argument x billig auswertbare Funktion g: [a, b] → ℝ zu approximieren. Die erste Forderung impliziert, daß g durch endlich viele Koeffizienten bzw. Parameter c = (c 0 ,…, c n )T ∈ ℝn+1. charakterisiert werden kann, also die Form g(x) = g(x,c) = g(x, c o ,…, c n ) besitzt, vgl. Abschnitt 1.2. Approximation von f durch g(., c) bedeutet dann, diese Koeffizienten c so zu bestimmen, daß g(x, c) ≈ f (x) für x ∈ [a, b] in einem noch festzulegenden Sinne gilt.
