Understanding the Success Factors of R&D Organization

The importance of Research & Development (R&D) capability is increasingly more emphasized in recent year as corporations try to enhance its competitiveness to changing market in ever more fierce competition. R&D is core activities that sustain organizational innovation and the R&D team is regarded the key component of R&D organization. In today’s rapidly changing business environment, the success of the organization depends critically on whether it has the core capital needed for its business success and how it can use it effectively. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to understand the contributing factors of R&D project in terms of social capital perspective, which is being considered key resource of business management today. Social capital, knowledge sharing, and Team-Efficacy are presented as core element of R&D team performance based on the review of previous literatures and empirical test of verified relationships. The significance of this study is in validating the importance of team capital and competence building under R&D project environment and presents strategic direction for R&D project success and team competence.
