Abstract
In 1935 Erwin Schrödinger wrote an essay that caused an intellectual uprising in the physics community. It bore the title The current situation in quantum mechanics (original German title: Die gegenwärtige Situation in der Quantenmechanik). In it Schrödinger asked: What do we actually measure in quantum systems?
