Abstract
Nausea and vomiting are symptoms present in many disease processes. Unfortunately, the lack of specificity of these symptoms means that their presence does not rule in or rule out any specific etiology. The clinician must conduct a thorough history and physical exam in an attempt to determine whether a cause outside of the gastrointestinal system should be considered. The history and physical are the best tools to guide further diagnostic testing and may frequently lead to the ultimate diagnosis in patient with nausea and vomiting.
