Abstract

Willem de Sitter’s father, Lamoraal Ulbo, was born on 5 mei 1846 in Groningen and was named after his grandfather on the maternal side. After his studies he received his doctor’s title with a dissertation titled The printing press as a means for crime. It was a major work of more than 200 pages with no less than 42 extra propositions. On his dissertation a positive review appeared.
