Abstract

Odontogenic infections spread to near and distant regions of the body leading to oral and systemic complications. To treat these infections, coordination of care between medical and dental providers is crucial. The siloes in the current clinical information systems do not aid in this shared practice. In this chapter, we highlight the issues within existing health information technology by providing few important examples of oral and systemic complications of odontogenic infections. Also, we summarized the importance of multidisciplinary approach to treat these infections in diverse health care settings.
