Abstract

Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) is a condition that includes clusters of diseases that affect almost 20–25% of world’s population. The exaggerated host response to the local microbial factors associated with MetS appears to be correlated with various inflammatory and soft tissue pathologies in oral cavities. The authors in this chapter provide examples of published scientific articles that inform on the connection between oral health and MetS. Various informatics methods including screening and monitoring tools have been described in the chapter. As prevention and evaluation of MetS is very important in terms of increasing the quality of care, the authors provide information on existing gaps in the guidelines and suggest some care plans that can be adopted as standard care of practice. The authors also recommend incorporation of some quality measures into the electronic health record for purposes of reporting clinical data in real time to healthcare providers.
