Abstract
Achieving the integration of dental-medical care will require understanding the factors that lead to the separation of care between dentistry and medicine. In this chapter we introduce clinical, historical, and practical concepts that explain the evolution of the two professions. We also introduce the rationale of why closing the gap will be beneficial for society at large.
