Abstract
The labial frenum is a fibrous band of tissue located in the middle of the oral vestibule and attached to the bone of the mandible or maxilla. Frena can vary in number and development. Hyperplasia can occur in certain syndromes and in non-syndromic patients, leading to a median diastema or contraction of lip movement. The frenum can also be absent or hypoplastic in some cases. In this chapter we describe the anatomy and variations of the labial frenum.
