Abstract
If your jaw drops when viewing an astro-image, contrast is likely the reason. Contrast is the difference in luminance or color properties of an object that make it distinguishable from other objects in the field of view. Objects that are distinct from one another have the ‘Wow!’ factor. They appear to jump off of a monitor (or page) with a 3D quality, rather than sitting there lifeless and flat. In this chapter, you’ll learn how to achieve, restore, and enhance contrast in your astrophotographs.
