Abstract

Deconvolution is a class of algorithms that attempt to correct for atmospheric distortion. Data acquired in even the best seeing will suffer from some softening of fine detail during the long exposures required for deep-sky astrophotography. While adaptive and active optics can mitigate this effect to a great extent, deconvolving the data can dramatically improve the results, regardless of your equipment or sky conditions. These restorative deblurring algorithms can yield sharper images with tighter stars and enhanced detail.
