Abstract
Older people and their families expect professionals to have the right skills to treat, care and help them, treat them with dignity and respect and act professionally and with integrity. Professional behaviour cannot always be defined in terms of absolute behaviours and requires the ability to identify when behaviour is appropriate and when is not. Beyond basic minimum standards, which may be set by regulations and codes of conduct, identification of unprofessional behaviours cannot be assumed to be clear-cut. Professional behaviour requires skills for ethical reasoning, professional commitment and personal awareness.
