Abstract

In this thesis we have investigated two different methods by which plasmon resonances can be narrowed and demonstrated their feasibility in a number of applications. Nanostripe arrays fabricated on a gold sublayer have been shown to give extremely high-quality plasmon resonances at telecommunication wavelengths and their application demonstrated in novel mechanical electro-optical modulator and waveguide designs.
