Hospital Security Considerations During Sudden Mass Casualty Incidents
Hospitals are meant to be, above all, safe places. Nevertheless, attempts to attack hospitals by suicide bombers in Israel and active shooter events at hospitals in the USA (Lebanon Hospital, Bronx, NY) have put security back at the top of hospital planning agendas.
Testing and improving hospital security should be part of a mature MCI plan. Normal access control to the hospital may be unmanageable due to sudden surge.
Some suggestions that may help improve the hospital security plan are discussed next.
