Abstract

The major distinction between planning the medical response to earthquakes and other sudden mass casualty incidents (SMCI) is related to how severe damage will be the infrastructure of the city where the earthquake occurred.

There is a high possibility that roads, airports, communications, and hospitals will be partially or completely damaged, which will significantly delay search and rescue efforts, transportation of sick or injured, medical care, and outcome of victims.
