Abstract
Extravillous trophoblast cysts are grossly visible cysts that are usually located in the subchorionic region or within the septa. They are not an uncommon finding in cut slices of the mature placenta. They have been thought to be of no clinical significance but a a re-evaluation of the clinical associations, including with in utero hypoxia, is needed.
