Pediatric Dysphagia

Abstract

Esophageal dysphagia refers to the sensation of difficulty swallowing or food getting stuck in the esophagus after it is swallowed as it traverses from the mouth toward the stomach. Dysphagia is a common problem seen by pediatric gastroenterologist and speech therapists. It may occur due to a variety of reasons such as anatomic or motility abnormalities. The following chapter discusses the etiology of esophageal dysphagia in children, diagnostic testing modalities, and management approaches for some common causes of pediatric dysphagia.
