Abstract

In this chapter, art therapy with clients diagnosed as having a severe cluster B personality disorder is described and linked to Dawson and MacMillan’s relationship management theory. The important qualities of art therapy but also critical aspects of the medium and methods are translated for use with this specific target group. Clients learn to take responsibility for their own behaviour and feel competent enough to regulate their emotions. The care provider gets less entangled in the therapeutic interaction than with other forms of therapy and the use of the art medium makes the therapeutic relationship more straightforward and manageable, which obviously helps them and does justice to the objectives which clients have set for themselves.
