Abstract

This chapter details the study in [2] which looks at Facebook, the world’s largest online social network. As of 2011, the network counted a whooping 721 million users, which was approximately \(10\%\) of the world’s population. The study focused on several algorithms. The degree distribution, path length distribution, component size, clustering coefficient, degeneracy, friend of friends, degree assortativity, login correlation, and the effects of age, gender and country of origin on friendships.
