Study on the Analysis of Traffic Accidents Using Driving Simulation Scenario

Abstract

This study investigated the visual search ability and number of collisions of subjects in different age group when encountering dangerous situations in a traffic environment. A total of 32 subjects were recruited in this study, which included the 12 young group (18–25 years old) and 12 elderly group (65–75 years old) respectively. Subjects wore the eye tracker to drive inside the driving simulator. There were 5 possible real road risky driving scenarios designed for the experiment. The result demonstrated that elderly group had a longer fixation duration than young group, and more fixation counts as well. However, the result found that the elderly group had no significantly higher than young group in the number of collisions. The results of the study were expected to assist in understanding the visual search behavior of elderly group in the road risk situation.
