Abstract
This report describes the development of “a vital sensing chair” and “a vital sensing cushion” to obtain data on heart rate using capacity-coupled electrodes instead of electrodes attached on the skin and respiration pressure sensors embedded in the sheet. The measurement test for the vital chair was conducted with five participants during two events: watching TV programs or movies projected on a wall and operating a smartphone. The results did not yield sufficient performance; however, there is the possibility to apply the developed chair in the assessment of a human state in a relaxed posture. The evaluation of the developed cushion has not been performed yet and it will be a part of future work. A game for a pair of participants applying nonintrusive respiration measurement was developed to facilitate respiration synchronization. Sixty-eight participants experienced it, and it was well received.
