Abstract

The purpose of this study is to try an evaluation of muscle load of hand and forearm during the cross-shaped switch operation. Five young and right-handed college students participated in the experiment in which the portable game device was used. They performed four kinds of operation task with metronome. EMG was derived from 4 muscles and transformed to the ratio to maximal voluntary contraction (%MVC). Uncomfortable feeling was also measured after the each task. From a correlation analysis between the %MVC and the uncomfortable feeling, higher correlation was found in the muscles which have direct connection with the push motion. Through a regression analysis which adopted the %MVC as an explanatory variable and the uncomfortable feeling as an objective variable, the regression coefficients in the flexor pollicis brevis muscle were higher than those of the extensor pollicis brevis muscle. In conclusion, possibility of the evaluation of the muscle load during the operation of cross-shaped switch by thumb was shown.
