Sketch: Novelty Shakes Things Up in the History Classroom

  • Carey FleinerEmail author

This sketch reveals the possibilities when desperation drives you to try something different, in order to capture students’ imagination. Particularly focusing on enabling students to grapple with difficult and complicated events in history, it offers inventive examples from roleplay and enactments to classroom dress-ups. It also offers a clear message of the need to prepare novel experiences carefully and also to balance them with more familiar approaches to teaching.
