Chronic Non-Bacterial Osteitis in Adolescence and Young Adulthood

Abstract

Chronic nonbacterial osteitis is an auto inflammatory disorder characterised by sterile bone lesions. It predominantly affects adolescent females. The metaphyses of long bones especially the distal tibial metaphyses are most often involved. It can be associated with other autoinflammatory conditions like psoriasis and inflammatory bowel disease. A whole-body MRI can be helpful in detecting asymptomatic lesions. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are used as first line in treatment. Long-term outcome, though fairly good, can be associated with significant morbidity.
