Abstract
This chapter provides an introduction to the book “Economies of Collaboration in Performance”. It orients the book’s focus in exploring the phrase “more than the sum of the parts” and positions the book in the context of other recent literature on creative collaboration. We interrogate earlier uses of some related terms, cooperation, collectivism and communalism, laying out the groundwork for the rest of the book’s concentration on the idea of collaboration. Finally, we prepare the reader for the subsequent discussion with a brief chapter breakdown.
