Abstract

This chapter starts with an introductory overview of the nature, characteristics, and phases of the process of systematic literature review; then, it presents the review proposal and provides details on the review protocol for the search and selection of articles. In particular, the systematic review hereby offered includes 141 papers published in the period 1985–2017 on 54 journals covering 11 disciplines.

Finally, the chapter provides a descriptive analysis of the studied papers as to their distribution by year, journal, and discipline, and concludes with an overview of the 20 most influential papers in terms of number of citations.
