Abstract
This chapter explores the role of personality assessment in recruitment and selection into healthcare settings. The chapter begins by providing an overview of core research on personality traits and their measurement drawing on psychological literature. Next, the implications of personality traits for behaviour, performance, and experiences of learning, work, and careers in healthcare are reviewed. The focus of the review is understanding how and in what ways assessment of personality traits might contribute to understanding future potential and suitability for careers in the sector. Finally, the implications of this research for the practice of recruitment and selection are examined, including possible processes and steps for implementing personality assessment in recruitment and selection in healthcare education and practice.
