Abstract
Innovative changes in the critical care delivery model are necessary to maintain high-quality, cost-effective care. Specialty prepared nurse practitioners and physician assistants fill provider shortages with positive patient outcomes. Proper training and utilization are imperative in creating care teams who will perform to the top of their abilities. Nurse practitioners and physician assistants are a viable alternative to traditional staffing models, providing safe and effective care in the critical care environment.
