Abstract

Four licensed reactor operators performed scenarios using the Rancor microworld process control simulation. The preliminary performance data and operator feedback concerning the representativeness of the microworld to actual nuclear power plant main control room activities are presented. Though the results are preliminary, operators demonstrated better performance than students and non-licensed operators tested in prior studies. The operators reported the microworld was representative of actual nuclear process control. The Rancor microworld demonstrated promise for use as platform to examine human factors issues for control room modernization at a reduced cost to full-scope simulation studies.
