Apart from various definitions of this specific perspective, this chapter also provides a preview of various schools of thought regarding how psychological empowerment has evolved over time and different models of the approach propagated by various researchers. The relevant research work carried out in the past in the area of psychological empowerment, with an emphasis on the service sector, is presented. This chapter also covers studies on the relationship between psychological empowerment and leadership, trust and work-related outcomes such as organizational commitment, job satisfaction, mediating and the moderating role of psychological empowerment and the antecedents of and outcomes of psychological empowerment.
