Abstract

Obesity has traditionally been treated with lifestyle modification, diet, pharmacologic agents, and more recently bariatric surgeries. Endoscopic bariatric therapies (EBTs) are emerging as a novel approach that is minimally invasive yet efficacious and safe. The goal of EBTs may be for primary, preemptive, bridge, or metabolic therapy, which are classified according to the primary location of the intervention (e.g., gastric vs small bowel) as well as the type of procedure. In this chapter, the authors review the diverse techniques and technologies involved in EBTs, the data behind each, as well as the future implications in the field of obesity treatment.
