Abstract

Sealing pit and fissures that are prone to develop a carious lesion (preventive sealants) or those that already present signs of an enamel carious lesion (therapeutic sealants) is a common preventive measure used in dentistry to control dental caries. In terms of material, resin-based and glass-ionomer cements are most frequently used. In this chapter sealants indications and their caries-preventive effect will be presented. The use of adhesive systems aiming to improve resin-based sealants retention will be discussed.
