Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement

Abstract

The key to successful TAVR implantation is high-quality preoperative imaging and procedural planning. Not only annular sizing but also a thorough understanding of relevant anatomy can be obtained through preoperative imaging. Studies should include contrast-enhanced CT scan, coronary evaluation, and echocardiogram. Modifications to CT or sizing procedures can be done in patients with renal disease. A dobutamine stress echocardiogram is useful to confirm diagnosis in TAVR patients with heart failure. Specialized topics such as bicuspid aortic valve and bioprosthetic valve degeneration require special consideration when reviewing imaging.
