Abstract

In summary, PCIT-T is a promising evidence-based treatment, integrating behavior, and attachment theories. It is an adaptation of standard PCIT created to meet the developmental needs of toddlers. A unique feature to PCIT-T is the inclusion of teaching emotion regulation to both caregivers and toddlers through the CARES model. Additionally, PCIT-T provides the scaffolding framework to teach listening skills by using the Tell-Show-Try Again-Guide procedure. Through these combinations of skills parents become more sensitive to their child’s needs, are better able to read cues, and provide modeling of positive behavior to their children.
