Abstract
This chapter highlights the role and responsibility primary care providers have for ensuring family-centered and culturally competent care when working with children and their families. The elements of family-centered care, the strengths that families bring to the care of their children with complex communication needs, and the collaboration needed for meaningful educational planning are described. The role of the medical home in the care of children with communication disorders is also highlighted.
