Abstract
The ultrasound study of pleural pathology requires an understanding of semeiotics and usual finds.
This imaging method allows the identification, evaluation, and control of pleural effusion and pleural empyema; it can guide transthoracic drainage manoeuvres.
Thoracic ultrasound allows the diagnosis and the extension balance of pneumothorax.
Finally, being able to demonstrate some of the conditions related to exposure to asbestos, such as pleural plaques and round atelectasis, thoracic ultrasound may play a role in the follow-up of subjects exposed to asbestos.
