Abstract

The present chapter is intended to offer a brief overview on the performance of microbial fuel cells at pilot-scale levels. The chapter encompasses different designs of MFCs including single, dual, upflow and flat-plate model built to treat various types of wastes generated from domestic to industrial processes at pilot-scale and also few at laboratory levels. This chapter concisely discussed application of various types of MFC in treating the wastewater collected constructed wetlands, small islands, domestic, winery, brewery, dairy, agro-food and textile industries. Further, the chapter also addresses the issues associated with large-scale applications and wrapped with the future perspectives.
